Irish Communities Minister Éamon Ó Cuív has announced the allocation of over €2.3m from the Dormant Accounts Fund to support around 200 projects in disadvantaged RAPID areas.
The Minister said the move reflects the government's commitment to ring-fence significant levels of disbursements from dormant accounts for those areas designated as most disadvantaged.
Under this allocation, the RAPID areas will receive a substantial funding boost and the 200 projects now approved for funding are those that have been identified locally as being of the highest priority.
Mr Ó Cuív said: "This funding is directed towards programmes and projects that assist the most disadvantaged in society, namely: those affected by social and economic disadvantage; those affected by educational disadvantage; and persons with a disability. This is another major boost for the RAPID Programme.
"It was always my intention that RAPID areas in particular should benefit from dormant accounts. The concentration of this type of support in RAPID areas ensures that resources are targeted at those communities most in need."
The measure was also tailored to ensure that at least 15% of funding is targeted for purposes associated with youth / sport / recreational activities.
