A commemorative new road has been opened in Carlow in memory of a late councillor.
Cathaoirleach of Carlow Town Council Tom O'Neill opened the €6.9m scheme, which was named after Paddy Carpenter.
Mr Carpenter was co-opted onto Carlow Urban District Council in January 1964, serving as a member for the next three decades.
Carpenter's Way consists of one kilometer of road, complete with footpaths and cycleways, a rail underbridge, a new roundabout and a pedestrian crossing at Eire Og.
At the official opening, the road was blessed by Father Cummins after which a bouquet of flowers were presented to Mr Carpenter's widow Ciss.
