Resurfacing works are underway on a section of the M2 motorway.
The improvement scheme is being carried out on the northbound section between Junction 5 Templepatrick and Junction 6 Rathbeg.
Works began on Friday and will run until Wednesday.
Mark McPeak, Roads Service's Project Manager said: "These essential works will strengthen this section of the M2 so that it can carry today’s very high traffic volumes, provide good skidding resistance, an even running surface, prevent the formation of surface defects and will reduce road noise thereby improving the safety and comfort of road users."
Despite putting traffic management systems in place, Road Service said delays will be avoidable.
Mr McPeak added: "The work has been scheduled during the summer months to take advantage of the reduced traffic flows and will be restricted to weekend and overnight and working. However, some delays will be inevitable and we would ask that motorists be patient as these essential works progress."
For safety reasons, it will be essential to close the M2 northbound between Junction 5 and Junction 6 at various times throughout the duration of the works, however, one lane will be kept open during the day at the weekend and two lanes on weekdays, Road Service said.
