The site of the Luas docklands extension has been mobilised, the Railway Procurement Agency (RPA) has said.
According to the RPA, the crews in charge of implementing the power and communications network for the future Luas Red Line - Docklands Extension (Line C1) have progressed on site during recent weeks.
"They are working in parallel with the civil works crews to implement the electrical power supply, attach the Overhead Cabling System (OCS) building fixings and erect poles," a spokesman said.
"Their works are progressing well and they will remain on site for the coming months to get the extension up and running.
"A key milestone is to link the existing overhead line to the new extension. During August 2009 the actual Overhead Cabling System will be installed. Once the electrical system is up, it will be live," added the RPA official.
Luas Line C1 is the proposed extension of the Luas Red Line (Connolly - Tallaght) to The Point. The line will serve the IFSC and the area east of the Royal Canal which is undergoing major redevelopment.
The extension is provided for in the Dublin Transportation Office's strategy 'A Platform for Change' which recommended an integrated transportation network linking the Docklands to the city centre. It is also provided for in the Dublin Docklands Development Authority Master Plan 2003.
