Lisburn's £2.8m state-of the-art bus centre has celebrated its first birthday.

Speaking on the milestone, Translink Lisburn Buscentre Manager Jim McCauley said: "Our new bus centre has been a real success, having a positive impact on passenger numbers using our services."

He said, through the installation of enhanced facilities, such as covered bus stands and more comfortable waiting areas, the bus centre is much more accessible, attractive and easier to use than the old facility at Smithfield Square.

"Such investment in modern, high quality facilities plays an important role in attracting new passengers onboard public transport."

Mr McCauley added: "We will continue to work hard to meet and, where we can, go beyond our passenger’s expectations and standards to keep our customers coming back."

Lisburn Mayor Allan Ewart said: "It’s great to see this new facility being well used and attracting more visitors to the area boosting our local economy through increased tourism revenue and improved access to job opportunities."

Alan Clarke, Lisburn City Centre Manager, added: "The centre, with its modern accessible design, integrated technology and ample room to wait offers a stark contrast to the old bus centre."
