Authorities in Antrim have pledged to invest more in providing local recreational areas.
The council said it will continue to construct children's play facilities, in the face of ongoing vandalism in the borough.
According to Antrim council, a new playground at John Street, in Randalstown, will be opened to the public by the autumn. While building work continues in Randalstown, further planning applications have been submitted for similar facilities in Muckamore and Stiles Way in the borough.
Local Mayor, Councillor Adrian Cochrane-Watson, said: "I'm delighted that work is progressing well at Randalstown and the wheels are in motion to provide play opportunities at Muckamore and Stiles Way.
"It's important that our local children have the opportunities to play in safe and challenging ways. It helps to keep them healthy and fit and provides them with enjoyment."
Mayor Cochrane-Watson said it was also important communities work to maintain council facilities.
"Unfortunately, this isn't always the case and vandalism is an all too common occurrence. When it happens, vandalism not only deprives children of somewhere to play but the whole community has to bear the costs of repairs through the rates," he added.
