Fluctuating Material Price Continues

The price of cement has defied market forces and increased by 8% in the past year, new figures have revealed.

However, on average, building and construction materials fell in value by around 5.5% since 2008.

According to the Central Statistics Office's Wholesale Price Index, reinforced metal and structural steel experienced the largest decline, with prices dropping by 31% and 21% respectively since last July.

Despite this trend, prices have remained static over the past month, and other materials are continuing to defy the downturn.
