Construction work has commenced on a new Fermanagh health centre.

The £120,000 project will prove a new doctors' surgery to the Trillick area.

Dromore contractor Noel McQuaid & Sons was appointed to carry out the conversion and refurbishment works at the Enterprise Centre site.

Trillick GPs Dr Paul Reilly and Dr Edward Burke said they are looking forward to opening the new premises.

Five new treatment rooms will be built as part of the scheme. Parking facilities at the surgery will also be increased.

Local councillor Pat McDonnell welcomed the beginning of works at the health centre.

He said: "There was never any doubt about the high quality of services provided by the GPs and their ancillary staff.

"It was also generally accepted that staff and patients were due new modern facilities."

Councillor McDonnell said problems over the site location, planning permission and financing were all issues that had to be overcome.

"It is now highly satisfying to note that the work has commenced on site," he added.
