Sligo's O'Connell Street will reopened in early December, a local councillor has confirmed.
Fine Gael's Matt Lyons said traffic flow in the area would recommence on 9 December, after the borough council was given proposals detailing the street's redevelopment.
Final plans and costings for the scheme are due to be presented to councillors within the next fortnight.
After receiving these documents - from the senior engineer in charge of the project - the council will give its final decision.
Last night, the council chamber heard that €120,000 had been allocated for the street's pedestrianisation three years ago; funding which could now be contributed to the reopening.
However, Councillor Lyons raised concerns over the cost of a €25,000 road resurfacing project.
