Education Minister Batt O'Keeffe has opened a new extension at Ballybay Central National School, in Athlone, Co Roscommon.
Minister O'Keeffe awarded the school €764,000 to build four classrooms and two ancillary rooms, as well as installing a new sewerage and drainage system and upgrading mechanical and electrical works.
Speaking at the school, Minister O'Keeffe said: "I'm delighted to be here in Kiltoom to officially open the new school extension in Ballybay Central National School.
"It's an example of the Government's continuing investment in the country's school infrastructure and our commitment to providing the best possible learning and working environment for students and teachers."
This year, the Government is investing €614m into its school building programme.
Mr O'Keeffe added: "I want to acknowledge the Ballybay school's keen awareness of the local environment and to pay tribute to students and teachers for winning three green flags.
"I hope that soon the school will add a fourth flag to its impressive collection."
