Over 10,000 Irish electricians have held a ballot on a possible nationwide strike action.
The ballot formed part of a dispute over a 5% pay rise, which is currently being negotiated at the Labour Court between the major employers of electricians and the Technical, Engineering and Electrical Union (TEEU).
However, a newly formed electrical contractor representative body secured an injunction last week, stopping the implementation of the agreement pending a court hearing this week.
The TEEU responded by arranging a ballot for industrial action, last Friday, in the event that the legal challenge is successful.
The meeting was described by the union as being of "great strategic importance to all our members employed in the industry".
