The Supreme Court has scheduled a hearing to decide whether Arklow will get permission to establish its long awaited sewage treatment plant.
The matter was given priority listing for the court following a preliminary hearing in June of this year, according to Arklow Council.
The plans have been in the pipeline for over 16 years but have been delayed due to continuous court appeals from the owners of a local caravan park.
In January of this year the High Court granted the objectors leave to appeal to the Supreme Court and it was expected that another two-year wait would be on the cards.
"With the case being fast tracked due to its urgency the community is expected to be pleased that some movement is evident," said a council spokeswoman.
Arklow Town Council previously decided to push ahead with preliminary works including the installation of interceptor sewers at various locations.
