Pay-As-You-Go Customer Get Cheaper Gas

Pay-as-you-go customers can now switch to 10% cheaper natural gas from firmus energy now that the switching system, which has been under development by Phoenix Networks for more than a year, is finally live.

Customers can live in Newtownards or Newtownabbey, Bangor or Belfast, Larne or Lisburn, all homes can switch from Phoenix to 10% cheaper natural gas from firmus energy, now including pay-as-you-go customers.

Michael Scott, acting General Manager for firmus energy, said: "We are delighted to finally be able to switch the 65,000 Phoenix natural gas homes with a pay-as-you-go meter in greater Belfast, including those in Mallusk.

"Switching to firmus energy is free and it only takes five minutes to submit your details online or on the phone. Whether you live in your own home, private rented accommodation or you are a Housing Executive tenant, any customer with a pay-as-you-go meter or credit meter can choose to switch - it’s entirely your choice and you don't need permission from your landlord."

One customer said: "All I had to do was submit my details online, which only took a few minutes and firmus energy did the rest. I am delighted that I will be able to top up my pay-as-you-go natural gas meter card just like I did with Phoenix but now I can benefit from 10% cheaper prices. It leaves more money in my pocket which is great."

Pay-as-you-go natural gas customers had previously been unable to switch their natural gas supplier.

Mr Scott continued: "Our pay-as-you-go customers pay 10% less than the Phoenix Supply published Pay As You Go tariff until 31st January 2013 and 5% less from 1st February 2013 – 31st January 2014... we guarantee it. We track Phoenix prices so whatever Phoenix charges between now and 31st January 2014, we’ll still be cheaper."
