Progress Welcomed On Renewable Energy Sector

SDLP South Down MP Margaret Ritchie has welcomed progress on renewable and hopes that the tidal energy energy programmes, industry on the Co Down coastline will benefit.

She said: "Progress on renewable energy is welcome particularly at a time of rising energy costs. It would be my hope that the development of an offshore wind-farm off the County Down Coast at Ardglass would not only lead to a reduction in household energy bills but also lead to employment opportunities at construction stage and in the long-term in renewable energy sector.


"It is vital that over the next few years full consultation and engagement take place with the local fishing industry, marine users, the coastal community and all stakeholders. The key to success will be local knowledge and cooperation, and I will work with all concerned over the coming years to ensure that we get the best deal for the County Down Coast and the community of South Down.

"This project will be the first of its kind and if successful could lead the way for future renewable energy job opportunities for the South Down area."
