Labour TD John Lyons has urged energy companies to replicate Bord Gais's decision to freeze prices this winter.
The company has announced it will not raise fuel prices until March of next year, regardless of wholesale energy costs.
Mr Lyon said: "The decision by Bord Gais to freeze its prices this winter is a boost for customers who are struggling with recent increases in energy prices.
"I am calling on other energy companies, including Electric Ireland and Airtricity, who have hiked their prices recently, to follow Bord Gais's example and freeze their prices this winter.
"Despite the difficult financial situation, Labour in government has worked to support low-income households with heating costs, through the Fuel Allowance, and through the Household Benefits Package of electricity and gas allowances.
"Figures released recently by Labour Minister Pat Rabbitte also show 34,905 homes in Dublin have benefitted from the highly successful 'Better Energy' home insulation schemes, with over 250,000 homes throughout Ireland availing of his Department's schemes."
