Stryker Instruments has confirmed plans to build a new foot surgical innovation centre in Carrigtwohill, Co Cork.

The new 44,000 square foot centre which will fuel future growth for Stryker, will focus on the research and development of products, technologies and solutions to reduce surgical procedure time and healthcare costs.

Minister of State and Labour TD for Cork East, Seán Sherlock, said: "Stryker has proved itself to be a vital employer in Cork and in the region as a whole. It has created jobs and this site will strengthen those roles and allow the company to expand and recruit in the future.

"With over 2,000 employed in two Cork sites and Limerick, this new world class facility will see surgeons travel from all over the world to train in the products developed in Cork. The new plant will see research and development of products, technologies and solutions to reduce surgical procedure time and healthcare costs whilst improving surgical precision and clinical outcomes in the areas of bone cutting and soft tissue dissection, and adjacent areas across a broad spectrum of surgical specialities and procedures."
