€3 million in funding has been allocated to build a new bridge at Cockhill, County Kerry.
Fianna Fáil TD for Donegal, Charlie McConalogue, has welcomed the funding and said it has been a long standing issue for the people of Buncrana and North Inishowen.
He said: "I would like to pay tribute to everyone in the local community who played a part in the advancement of this project over the last number of years and indeed to representatives from all parties who have worked together to secure funding for this project.
"In particular, I want to acknowledge my party's local representatives who have worked tirelessly in their roles to campaign for a new bridge, in particular Councillor Rena Donaghey, and also former town Councillors Joe Doherty and James Gill."
