Eirgrid's plans to scrap the proposed over-head power line from Cork To Kildare have been welcomed by Labour.
Senator Denis Landy said the proposed plans were "unnecessary, unsightly, uneconomical, and inevitably unviable".
Senator Landy said: "We said it all along and now we have been proven right.
"I want to commend those who stuck with an orderly campaign of protest and I am delighted that common sense has indeed prevailed and an alternative method through new technologies will now be used to provide more electricity over the existing power lines across the country."
