Fox Contracts is to begin a new £5 million link road and flood wall scheme in Omagh.
The 1km Strathroy Link road will run between a new roundabout on the Derry Road, close to where it joins the existing roundabout at the northern end of the Omagh through-pass and the Strathroy Road close to Strathroy Dairies.
In addition, a new 330-metre long flood wall be developed at Hunters Crescent. The work is scheduled to take 66 weeks to complete.
Divisional Roads Manager Conor Loughrey said: "This strategically important scheme will improve connectivity around the northern side of Omagh and thus reduce congestion within the town. It will also bring a welcome improvement to the flood protection in the Derry road area.
"When complete the single carriageway will include a shared footway/cycleway, the construction of a new 100m long concrete bridge over the River Strule and the replacement of the existing 330m long flood wall at Hunters Crescent."
