Repair works have been completed on the Edmondstown Road in Rathfarnham, Co Dublin, ahead of schedule.
The road was officially reopened on Friday, October 26, after being closed for almost a year.
The council was forced to close the road in November 2017 after alleged illegal works were carried out by a man who did not have planning permission. This severely weakened the road structure.
Local Fianna Fáil TD and Spokesperson on Dublin, John Lahart welcomed the news.
He said: "The forced closure of Edmondstown Road, Rathfarnham last November has caused immense inconvenience for local residents. For the past 12 months those living and working in the area have had to manage without access to this essential route.
"Today's announcement is welcome news for all locally. It's my understanding that there will be some additional minor works carried out on the route over the course of the next week.
"All going well, this will mark the end to a long and inconvenient year for very many Edmondstown road users."
