A series of on-the-ground investigations are moving forward on plans to build a wastewater treatment facility in the coastal town of Moville in County Donegal.
The project, which is in the design and pre-planning stage, would see the delivery of a new wastewater treatment plant and collection system to end the discharge of untreated wastewater into Lough Foyle and the Bredagh River.
Moville currently has no municipal wastewater treatment facilities, with the discharge of untreated wastewater causing the Environmental Protection Agency to classify the Bredagh River as 'Seriously Polluted'.
Following the completion of investigations, a planning application will be submitted to Donegal County Council by the end of 2019.
Detailed design and construction will take approximately four years, and will be completed by 2022, subject to statutory approvals.
