Upgrades Complete At Donegal Water Treatment Plants

A series of assessments and upgrades have been completed at water treatment plants across county Donegal.

The works, which form part of Irish Water's National Disinfection Programme, have seen improvements delivered to 15 plants. They have ensured the plants will continue to comply with the required drinking water regulations and maintain the security of supply and development opportunities for businesses.

The utility's Disinfection Programme will see €65m invested nationally to assess and upgrade water disinfection systems in plants and pumping stations across the country.


Contractor Veolia Ltd completed the works in Donegal on behalf of Irish Water.

"Irish Water is delighted to have completed these essential works, which will improve the security of drinking water supply for residents and businesses in County Donegal," said Martin Temple, Disinfection Programme Regional Lead, Irish Water.

"Improving water treatment processes will safeguard water supply in these areas, protecting the health of local communities and enabling economic and social development in these areas.

"Irish Water is addressing the size and scale of the challenge to improve water treatment nationally, which can be seen here in County Donegal where works have just been completed in 15 plants. Water treatment standards have been improved at these plants ensuring they are now compliant with national Drinking Water Quality Regulations."
