Work has commenced on Iniscarn forest improvements following an investment by DAERA and Mid Ulster District Council, at Iniscarn Forest, which lies to the west of Desertmartin.

The work is being carried out in partnership with Forest Service NI.

Council Chair, Councillor Paul McLean welcomed the new improvements at Iniscarn, said: "Iniscarn Forest is a hidden gem within the Sperrins, and one that has been proving more and more popular over the last 18 months. Council is committed to offering quality parks and increased access to children’s play and outdoor recreational opportunities and experiences to our local community."

The £210,000 project, due for completion by the end of March 2022 is funded under the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) Tackling Rural Poverty and Social Isolation (TRPSI) Programme and by Mid Ulster District Council. DAERA Minister Edwin Poots MLA commented: "This project at Iniscarn is another example of how my Department, through the TRPSI Programme, develops partnerships and funds initiatives to benefit rural communities.

Work will focus on a new all-ability play area, covered outdoor seating area and the creation of a parking area with space for approximately 30 vehicles.
