A key programme of roadworks has been announced in the County Down village of Saintfield.
Work will get underway to improve Crossgar Road on Tuesday 30 August, and is expected to be completed by Saturday 17 September 2022.
The Department for Infrastructure is investing £435,000 in the scheme, which will involve the asphalt resurfacing of a 1.3 kilometre stretch of the Crossgar Road from its junction with Main Street/Todd's Hill to a point 400 metres south-east of the Old Grand Jury Road junction. This work will greatly improve the strength and surface quality of this section of the road network to the benefit of local residents, businesses and those who travelling between Belfast and Downpatrick.
To facilitate the safe delivery of the scheme it will be necessary to implement night-time road closures commencing nightly from 7pm to 6am on Monday 05 September 2022 through to Saturday 10 September 2022 and from 7pm to 6am nightly from Monday 12 September to Saturday 17 September. The road will be open to traffic overnight on the Saturday and Sunday nights during the closure.
During these times a signed diversionary route via Crossgar Road, Saintfield Road, Ballynahinch Road, Cahard Road, Vale Road, Ballynahinch Road, Crossgar Road, Belfast Road, Saintfield Road, Ballynahinch Road and Main Street and vice versa will be in place.
Local access for residents and emergency services will be maintained at all times.
Road users should expect some delays and are advised to allow additional time when travelling in the vicinity of the works and are asked to comply with all temporary traffic restrictions.
