The revitalisation of Coalisland town centre has continued with the completion of £160,000 Shared Space works.
The works have seen the Canal towpath area developed including the placement of amphitheatre seating and benches at the start of the Canal. As well as this, pathways have been upgraded, covered seating has been installed and existing railings and walls have been updated. New lighting will also be installed over the coming weeks.
The project was funded through the EU's PEACE IV Programme, managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB).
Chair of Mid Ulster District Council, Councillor Córa Corry said: "The completion of these latest impressive and highly anticipated works in Coalisland is further confirmation of the Council's commitment to investing in the revitalisation of the town, not for only its residents but for its businesses, shoppers and visitors.
"These new works complement perfectly the completion of £274K Revitalisation works from the Department for Communities (DfC), a £170K Active Travel scheme from the Department for Infrastructure (DfI) and most notably a very successful £4.27M public realm scheme which created a safe, high quality and pedestrian-friendly environment, greatly improving traffic flow and parking in the town.
"I wish to thank our funders, the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB) for providing this significant funding and for again working in partnership with the Council to deliver such essential works."
