Northern Ireland's Infrastructure Minister, John O'Dowd, recently toured the new Belfast Grand Central Station ahead of its phased opening, set to begin next weekend.
Translink, the public transport provider, has announced that the station will become operational in stages, starting with the relocation of bus services from the current Europa Bus Centre on Sunday, September 8th. Rail operations will follow at a later date, which is yet to be confirmed.
The station is being constructed by Farrans in partnership with Sacyr as part of a major infrastructure project supported by the Northern Ireland Executive. Once completed, Belfast Grand Central Station will be Ireland’s largest integrated transport hub, offering state-of-the-art facilities for trains, buses, and coaches.
Although the station itself is nearing completion, public realm improvements around the site are expected to continue until 2025.
The new transport hub is seen as a transformative development for Northern Ireland, enhancing both local and international connectivity. It is anticipated to encourage more people to use sustainable transport options, supporting efforts to create a cleaner, healthier, and more connected region.
