Grass Pitch Refurbishment Projects in Sandyford, Dublin, have successfully been completed, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council (DLR) has announced.
Pitches at both Moreen Park and Páirc Uí Bhriain were the subject of upgrade and improvement works as part of an ongoing programme aimed at providing high-quality sports facilities that are well maintained, sufficient in number, and accessible to as many local people as possible.
The refurbishment works at Moreen Park and Pairc Ui Bhriain involved extensive reconstruction, earthworks, drainage improvements, sand dressing and a minimum 12-month establishment period.
DLR are projecting a 100% increase in usage compared to current stock of grass pitches, with a reduced likelihood of pitches being called off during wet periods.
At the launch of the improved pitches, Frank Curran, Chief Executive of DLR said: "The Grass Pitch Refurbishment Projects align with the Council's sporting objectives, policies, and strategies, and form part of a wider programme of improvements to deliver on our corporate goals.
"The success of these projects will pave the way for further upgrades to grass pitches in the County, with six more locations earmarked for refurbishment next year including at Deerpark, Stonemasons Way, Stonebridge and Clonkeen Park."
DLR also thanked the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media for the Sport Capital grant funding to deliver these enhanced facilities.
