County Galway-based Coffey Construction is delivering essential infrastructure works as part of the Trimpley to Hampton Loade Pipeline project in the West Midlands region of England.
This key scheme will improve water resilience for over 65,000 customers supplied by Trimpley Water Treatment Works.
The 11.5km pipeline, with a 500mm diameter, connects Hampton Loade WTW to Trimpley Top Storage Reservoir. This work supports Severn Trent’s AMP7 commitment to securing second-source resilience for its network.
Coffey is responsible for a range of construction aspects of the project. A strong focus was placed on safety, precision and long-term value, with a number of modern construction methods and technologies used to enhance delivery on site.
Pre-construction UAV surveys were carried out using high-resolution drone mapping to capture terrain data and assist with accurate land reinstatement. Leica Machine Control Technology was implemented across all excavators to avoid known utilities, protecting existing infrastructure throughout.
The Coffey team deployed tilt-rotator excavators that allow precision digging from outside the trench, reducing risk to operatives and improving safety. Meanwhile, advanced navigation systems kept pilot drilling exactly on line and level, ensuring a flawless fit for the new pipeline.
In horizontal directional drilling (HDD) operations, the integration of the TONGHAND® XS system removed the need for manual wrench handling, reducing risk and increasing efficiency. Additionally, throughout construction, UAV technology supported ongoing progress tracking and real-time site visibility, allowing for faster, more informed decisions.
