Project contractor BSG, working with NI Water and McAdam, is continuing improvement works to the wastewater network in Annsborough and Castlewellan in County Down.
This investment includes the installation of new dedicated stormwater pipelines to remove rainwater from parts of the combined system. This will reduce the pressure on the existing network and help reduce the risk of out-of-sewer flooding. A series of localised sewer repairs, also included in the scheme, will address leakage and help protect against blockages.
Following completion of work in Lower Square and Clarmont Avenue around the end of August, the next phase of improvements will involve laying a section of new stormwater pipe, network connections and sewer repairs on Newcastle Road, between the junction of Church Field Heights and the mini roundabout at Main Street. Works are scheduled to begin on Wednesday, September 3, subject to site investigations. Pipelaying will start at Church Field Heights and progress towards Main Street, connecting into the upgraded stormwater network.
A lane closure will be in place around the working area, with temporary traffic lights to manage flow. These will be manned during peak times to reduce delays, and traffic management will be lifted where possible at weekends. The pipelaying and resurfacing on Newcastle Road is expected to take around three months. Once complete, some relining of the foul sewer may be carried out from existing manholes. This will not involve excavation and will only require localised traffic management.
Access for residents and businesses will be maintained, and BSG will liaise directly with properties along the route. NI Water, BSG and McAdam thank the public for their cooperation during these works and will continue to provide updates as the project progresses.
