A key construction milestone for the Belfast Grand Central Station project has been reached, with Translink announcing that Durham Street / Boyne Bridge Place is set to fully reopen on Saturday, 29 November 2025, at 8.00 am.
The reopening follows an extensive programme of construction works carried out by the main contractor, Farrans Sacyr JV. The works included comprehensive public realm improvements, utility upgrades, and road re-grading.
The redesigned road structure balances the needs of pedestrians and active travel users with road traffic. It now features convenient drop-off and pick-up provision, along with new pedestrian crossings for direct, level access to the station and the surrounding communities and businesses. New signage has also been installed to improve wayfinding in the area.
Chris Conway, Translink Group Chief Executive, praised the project's progress: "The road design has been carefully considered to prioritise safety and cater for large pedestrian flows and it is a vital component in ensuring the overall success of this project."
He noted that passers-by will notice the vast transformation underway, including the development of the impressive Saltwater Square—an attractive new public realm space outside the station due for completion next year.
Duane McCreadie, Project Director at Farrans Sacyr JV, highlighted the effort required by the construction team: "Our team has been pushing hard to achieve this milestone ahead of the busy Christmas period and it is a credit to our supply chain who have supported us in the delivery of this programme of works."
McCreadie added that the reopening is expected to have a positive impact on the city, benefiting shoppers, retailers, and the hospitality industry.
While the road is reopening, Translink confirmed that public realm works will continue in the area, including remaining cycle lanes, sections of footway and crossing-points.
