The McKinstry Group has announced a major £16 million investment in a new 4,200m² recycling facility at its headquarters in Nutts Corner, Co. Antrim.
Supported by a Green Capex Loan from Bank of Ireland, the state-of-the-art plant is designed to transform waste management for the construction, demolition, and industrial sectors across Northern Ireland.
The project, developed in close collaboration with Northern Ireland-based engineering firm Kiverco, will feature cutting-edge automated sorting technology. The facility is engineered to maximise material recovery and minimise landfill use, supporting the construction industry's transition toward a circular economy.
Key Technical & Operational Features:
• Capacity & Specialisation: The 4,200m² facility is purpose-built to process heavy Construction & Demolition (C&D) and Industrial waste streams.
• Real-Time Data Monitoring: Integrated smart technology will provide real-time waste monitoring, allowing McKinstry and its supply chain partners to access precise recovery data for environmental reporting and ESG compliance.
• Automation: The plant incorporates advanced screening, air separation, and metal recovery systems to drive high-purity output with minimal manual intervention.
• Strategic Growth: The site is designed for scalability, enabling the group to adapt to future legislative changes and increased waste volumes.
Darren McKinstry, Managing Director of the McKinstry Group, said: "Our objective has been to develop a world-class materials recycling facility capable of meeting both our current and future requirements. We have collaborated closely with Kiverco and other key partners to realise a shared vision of creating the most innovative and efficient construction, demolition, and industrial recycling plant in the industry."
The investment was facilitated by Bank of Ireland via its Green Capex Loan, a product specifically designed to assist corporate customers in funding transformative environmental projects.
Charlotte McCann, Associate Director at Bank of Ireland Corporate Banking NI, added: "We are pleased to support McKinstry Group with this important green investment which will be transformative for their business, driving efficiencies through automation and delivering significant environmental benefits."
