Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council has completed a £100,000 programme of works at Stiles Community Centre, delivering upgrades to improve accessibility, safety and the overall experience for residents, community groups and visitors.
Beginning in early January 2026, the scheme focused on a comprehensive refurbishment of the car park and pedestrian pathways, with enhanced provision for people with disabilities at its core.
The project included full resurfacing and white lining of the car park and surrounding hardstanding, regrading and resurfacing of pedestrian routes to the front and rear entrances, the installation of new low‑energy external lighting across the site and improvements to surface drainage, creating a safer, more sustainable and welcoming environment for all users.
Stiles Community Centre is a busy local hub supporting a wide range of organisations and services. Regular users include Globe Afterschool Club, which has provided after-school and holiday childcare at the centre for more than 20 years, and Home-Start, a long-standing tenant offering practical and emotional support to families with young children, helping parents build confidence and resilience.
Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Henry Cushinan said: "These improvements demonstrate the Council’s continued commitment to investing in our community facilities, ensuring they remain accessible, safe and fit for the future. Stiles Community Centre plays an important role in supporting local families and community organisations, and we are delighted to see these works completed to benefit everyone who uses the centre."
