Uisce Éireann has begun essential works to replace more than 5km of ageing water mains in Cloonfad, Co Roscommon, to provide a more reliable supply for households and businesses.
The project aims to resolve a pattern of disruptive bursts in recent years, restoring confidence in the local network and supporting the community for the long term.
Delivered under Uisce Éireann's National Leakage Reduction Programme, the upgrade between Cloonfad and Lowberry Cross will reinforce the system and directly address recurring burst issues. The investment is intended to secure a dependable water supply that supports homes, enterprises and future growth.
Customers in Cloonfad and nearby areas — including Meeltraun, Clogher Upper, Derrylahan and Ballinross, Moigh Lower, Tonregee and Mount Delvin — as well as those connected to the Johnstown/Levalleyroe Group Water Scheme, are set to benefit.
Enda Mac Namara, Programme Manager with Uisce Éireann, said: "We're delighted to have commenced these essential works in Cloonfad. We understand how frustrating ongoing bursts and disruptions have been for local residents and businesses, and these works are a direct response to those challenges. This investment will make a real difference to daily life in the area by providing a more reliable water supply. We appreciate the patience and support of the community as these works continue."
Farrans Construction is carrying out the works, which are due to be completed by spring 2027. For safety, lane closures with traffic lights will be in place on sections of the R327.
If short-term planned water outages are necessary, customers will receive at least 48 hours' notice in advance.
