Uisce Éireann has started a new phase of improvements to Cork City's wastewater network in the Coal Quay area, building on similar works carried out on Grand Parade earlier in 2026 as part of ongoing investment in the city's infrastructure.

The works, which commenced in early August, will provide specialist contractors with access to the underground pump station at Coal Quay to remove redundant equipment, clean the station and clear historical debris. This will strengthen the operational resilience of the wastewater network and help pinpoint future upgrade needs.

Uisce Éireann Portfolio Manager, David Shalloo, said: "This project will provide vital improvements to the operation of wastewater infrastructure in Cork City. As was the case in Grand Parade, these works will enable service improvements across the wastewater network. This project will lay the foundation for maintenance and improvement works in the future."

From next week, activity will take place in the Coal Quay area, including along Corn Market Street and Kyrl's Street. Ward and Burke Construction Ltd. will deliver the programme, which is expected to last approximately eight weeks.

To carry out the works safely and efficiently, temporary pedestrian and traffic management measures will be in operation.
