Doireann Barry, a Cork native, has been appointed EirGrid's Director of Business Services, a role central to enabling the grid operator's operations as Ireland advances its energy transition.

Barry previously served as Head of SONI Governance Implementation at EirGrid, contributing to governance and oversight across the group.

An Electrical Engineering graduate of University College Cork, she began her career on the ESB National Grid graduate programme, which later became EirGrid. She has since progressed through junior and senior engineering positions and undertaken roles in IT, strategy, sustainability and transformation.

Speaking of her appointment, Doireann said: "I am delighted to take up the role of Director of Business Services at such an important time for the organisation.

"Business Services plays a vital role in enabling the organisation to perform at its best, and I look forward to supporting EirGrid's people, strengthening our foundations and helping deliver EirGrid's strategy."

The move comes as EirGrid launches its Group Strategy 2026, an ambitious blueprint to reshape Ireland's electricity grid so every home, business and community is powered by secure, clean and affordable electricity. The strategy sets out the most extensive programme of work ever undertaken on the national power system, supporting economic and societal change through electrification.

Following an allocation of €18.9 billion by Government and the regulator for grid and network investment, EirGrid plans a major programme through to 2030, with a strong focus on delivering infrastructure at pace and at scale.

Barry will also help drive one of the strategy's key enablers, "Customers and Stakeholders at the Core", reflecting the priority placed on working closely with customers, communities, industry and policymakers to find solutions that support Ireland's energy future.
