Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage James Browne TD has welcomed new Central Statistics Office (CSO) data showing that more homes were completed in the first nine months of this year than in any equivalent period since the CSO began its series.
From January to September 2026, 26,833 new homes were completed, a 10.6% rise on the same period in 2025, when 24,256 were finished.
In the third quarter alone, 10,154 homes were completed — up 10.4% on Q3 2025 (9,197). As housing output typically peaks towards year-end, this performance in the first nine months points to a strong overall delivery for 2026.
Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, James Browne TD, said: "It is once again greatly encouraging to see record numbers of homes being completed as we approach the end of the year. While this progress is encouraging, I am taking nothing for granted, but as a key indicator of where we are at, it demonstrates that our policies are translating into real progress on the ground, delivering more homes and putting keys in people's hands.
"Momentum is strong, but we cannot ease off. As Minister, I will continue to take every action necessary to increase housing supply and build on this progress well into next year and beyond."
By type in Q3 2026: apartment completions totalled 3,464, up 9.8% year on year; scheme dwellings reached 5,163, up 13.5%; and single dwellings were 1,527, up 2.1%.
