A key construction milestone has been reached on Beacon Hospital’s €100 million expansion in South Dublin, with the new eight-storey extension now topped out.

The milestone signifies the structure has hit its highest point, advancing one of Ireland's largest ongoing healthcare builds and moving Beacon Hospital closer to substantially expanding acute and specialist capacity.

Built on the former Beacon Hotel site, the extension is being delivered by Clancy Construction as main contractor and will be linked to the existing hospital from levels 3 to 8.

On completion, the project will add 70 inpatient beds, a new Emergency Department, a new Oncology Day Unit and four additional day theatres. The scheme is also expected to create about 240 new roles across clinical, operational and support functions.

The works are being carried out directly alongside the operational hospital, demanding careful planning and close coordination between Beacon Hospital, Clancy and the wider project team to maintain safe, uninterrupted patient care throughout construction.

The topping out comes as the building envelope makes strong progress, including a striking new façade to the front of the extension.
