Homeowners In Ireland Can Claim Up To €4,000 For VELUX Roof Window Replacements

Construction News Image

Homeowners across Ireland may be eligible for Government grants of up to €4,000 when replacing older roof windows, following confirmation that VELUX roof windows qualify under the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland’s (SEAI) Windows and Doors Grant Scheme.

The scheme provides financial support for eligible homeowners upgrading their properties with more energy-efficient windows and doors. Grant amounts range from €1,500 for apartments to €4,000 for detached houses, with funding determined by property type rather than the number of roof windows being replaced.

To qualify, homes must have been built and occupied before 2011 and achieve an overall Heat Loss Indicator (HLI) of 2.3 W/m²K or lower following the completion of the upgrade works.

Replacing ageing roof windows can help improve a home's energy performance, reduce heat loss and enhance indoor comfort. Modern VELUX roof windows feature improved glazing and insulation, helping to minimise draughts and create a more comfortable living environment.

The company's standard double-glazed roof windows have a U-value of 1.3 W/m²K, below the scheme’s stated maximum requirement of 1.4 W/m²K for eligible windows.

Upgrading older roof windows can also increase the amount of natural daylight entering a room. Even when replacing an existing window with one of the same size, modern designs can provide greater glazed areas, helping to create brighter interior spaces.

The improvements may be particularly beneficial for homeowners experiencing condensation, draughts or poor thermal comfort in rooms with older roof windows.

To help homeowners navigate the replacement process, VELUX offers a dedicated Replacement Supply & Fit service. The service connects customers with SEAI-registered installers and provides guidance throughout the process, from choosing a replacement roof window to arranging installation.

Homeowners considering an upgrade should be aware that grant approval must be secured before any work begins. Installations must also be carried out by a registered contractor to meet the scheme’s requirements.

With energy efficiency remaining a consideration for households preparing for the colder months, the grant scheme offers eligible homeowners an opportunity to improve the performance and comfort of their homes while offsetting some of the cost of replacing older roof windows.
