BAM has hosted Taoiseach Micheál Martin and the Lord Mayor of Cork, Cllr Damian Boylan, at Horgan's Quay as the Land Development Agency (LDA) opened applications for its first Cost Rental homes in Cork.
The event marked a key step for the landmark city-centre scheme, where BAM is delivering 302 new homes alongside commercial and community facilities.
The Taoiseach and Lord Mayor were joined by representatives from the LDA, Cork City Council, Córas Iompair Éireann (CIÉ) and HQ Developments Residential Company Ltd, a joint venture between Clarendon Properties and BAM Contractors.
Construction of the residential and commercial block began in 2024. Once complete, it will comprise 302 apartments — 108 one-bedroom and 194 two-bedroom — plus five commercial units, a crèche and office accommodation, including the refurbished historic Station Master's House.
The first 192 homes will be offered through the LDA's Cost Rental scheme, with applications opening on 27 October.
Darren Devane, Director of Building, BAM Ireland, said: "As the main contractor, BAM is proud to play a central role in the delivery of this development and the overall transformation of Horgan's Quay and the wider Cork Docklands.
"This development is not just about delivering high-quality, sustainable homes, it's about creating a vibrant, connected community in the heart of the city.
"Our long-standing commitment to the regeneration of this area reflects our belief in Cork's future as a thriving, inclusive urban centre. We are delighted to be working alongside the LDA, CIÉ and Clarendon Properties to bring this vision to life."
Situated on the River Lee beside Kent Station, Horgan's Quay is a major mixed-use regeneration project bringing together new homes, workplaces, retail, hospitality and public spaces in a highly connected location.
BAM's contribution forms part of the broader transformation of Horgan's Quay and Cork Docklands, combining modern, sustainable development with the restoration and adaptive reuse of important heritage assets. The Goods Shed, Carriage Shed and Station Master's Building are among the historic structures being integrated into the wider scheme, preserving the area's industrial character while creating a vibrant new neighbourhood.
The visit provided a first-hand look at progress and highlighted the collaboration involved in delivering new homes and amenities at this strategic city-centre site. On completion, Horgan's Quay will support the wider regeneration of Cork Docklands, helping to establish a new riverside community and furthering Cork's development as a connected, sustainable city.
