NI Water has confirmed that pipelaying will start on Warren Road in Donaghadee on Monday 9 November to install dedicated stormwater infrastructure for a new housing development on the nearby Stockbridge Road.
The Warren Road phase will require a lane closure around the works area close to Stockbridge Road. Although the scheme had been due to start at the end of October, it has been slightly delayed. The lane restriction will now be in place from Monday 9 November for approximately two to three weeks.
After this section is finished, the pipeline will continue from Warren Road onto a short stretch of Stockbridge Road up to the new development. To facilitate this stage, Stockbridge Road will be closed to through traffic at its junction with Warren Road.
Speaking about the work, the required traffic management and access arrangements, Francis Anton Shanmugam, NI Water Project Manager, said: "This new pipeline and associated manholes are being installed to deal with surface water from the new development on Stockbridge Road, rather than it entering the combined sewerage network.
"To facilitate the work in the safest possible manner, traffic management will be implemented in two stages:
"From Monday 9th November, a lane closure will be in place around the working area on a section of Warren Road, adjacent to its junction with Stockbridge Road, for 2-3 weeks.
"Following completion of the Warren Road section, Stockbridge Road will be closed to through traffic between Warren Road and the new development, located beside Nos. 9/11 Stockbridge Road, for approximately 3-4 weeks. Access to all business and residential properties on Stockbridge Road between High Bangor Road and the new development will be maintained from High Bangor Road.
"A letter drop has been carried out in the area and signage is in place for motorists. NI Water and our project team from AtkinsRéalis and AG Wilson Civil Engineering thank residents and the wider public for their patience and cooperation while this essential work is carried out."
The overall programme is expected to take around six weeks to complete.
