The new €120 million Pier D extension at Dublin Airport has been officially opened by the Taoiseach and Minister for Transport.
The new traffic corridor is expected to cater for around 27,000 passengers every day, and the Dublin Airport Authority has said it will make the experience of passengers on low-cost airlines better.
Six of the 12 boarding gates on Pier D were opened today, with the remainder of them following early next year.
Pier D is connected to the existing terminal building by a 350m skybridge that allows passengers a view over the runway and airfield. The skybridge has replaced the criticised prefabricated walkway to temporary boarding gates, used by both arriving and departing Ryanair passengers.
The Pier D development is part of a €2 billion investment by the Dublin Airport Authority over the next 10 years.
