The Government is set to unveil details today of the long-awaited Dublin Transport Authority (DTA).
The body is being established to oversee transport development in Dublin, Kildare, Meath and Wicklow.
It will be charged with ending the widespread building of residential or commercial developments in areas with poor transport links, as - under the legislation to establish the authority - developers will only be allowed to build in areas where proper transport services are already up and running.
Officials hope the DTA will also speed up the construction of new infrastructure.
Transport Minister Noel Dempsey is to publish the Dublin Transport Authority Bill today.
