An Bord Pleanála has granted planning permission for 700 new homes on Dublin's South Circular Road.
In a joint venture between Bee Bee Developments and the Walls Group, the development will be sited on the former Players cigarette factory and adjoining Bailey Gibson industrial premises.
The project is to include 18 buildings from two to 12-storeys, a community centre, school, crèches, medical centre, supermarket, offices, restaurants and a leisure centre with pool.
Meanwhile, a planning application for 78 apartments on the former Solus factory site has been refused by Dun Laoghaire Rathdown council.
Previously, an application by German retailer Lidl, for a discount store on the site was turned down, as was an application for 88 apartments two years ago.
