NI Social Development Minister Margaret Ritchie unveiled a new multi-sports facility in Dungannon yesterday.

The facility, supported by Dungannon and South Tyrone Council and Groundwork, is located in the Ballygawley Road Housing Estate. It will offer a much-needed service to the local community.

Launching the project, the Minister said: "Children are the future of our society, and this project demonstrates my commitment to ensuring all children receive equal opportunities irrespective of where they live."

"It will help alleviate anti-social behaviour in the area by giving the people a safe, fun and friendly multi-sports facility they can all enjoy."

The development forms part of the Neighbourhood Renewal Area of Dungannon, where there are high rates of unemployment and social deprivation.

A total contribution of £81,102, for the sports facility, came from the Neighbourhood Renewal Investment Fund.

Minister Ritchie, who overseen the spend, said: "Our Neighbourhood Renewal Strategy seeks to ensure that people living in disadvantaged areas enjoy the same quality of life as everyone else in Northern Ireland."

"I am delighted that my Department is making a positive contribution to improve the social, physical and economic prospects for people living in the Dungannon Neighbourhood Renewal Area," added Ms Ritchie.



The new Multi-sports Facility is the first step in an Executive-endorsed three-year renewal scheme for deprived communities in the Province.
