Widespread flooding has caused chaos across the island of Ireland over the past fortnight, none more so than for drivers.
Now, new technology could offer a valuable service for motorists at risk on flooded roads.
The equipment has been designed to allow cars to alert other road users of hazards in their area.
The 'Smart car' technology has already proved a major step in combating serious road accidents and traffic jams around the continent of Europe.
The EU recently decided to reserve part of the radio network in all EU states for smart technology.
The use of such wireless communication technology is geared towards enabling cars to "talk" to other vehicles.
The technology could be used also to warn other motorists of slippery roads or a crash further down the road.
This week, Belfast drivers were caught-up in unprecedented floods at the Westlink's Broadway Underpass, where a number of cars became submerged in the rising water levels.
