Grants of up to £30,000 are to be made available to property owners in Portaferry, County Down, under the 'Town Centre Living Initiative'.
Ards Borough Council was successful in achieving Town Centre Living Initiative Area Status (TCLIA) for Portaferry.
The designation of TCLIA enables owners of vacant commercial or residential property located within a town boundary to access grant assistance of up to £30,000 per property through the Northern Ireland Housing Executive .
The aim of the scheme is to utilise this vacant space by renovating it into private rented living accommodation, addressing issues of dereliction and encouraging living back in town centres.
A public meeting was held in Portaferry Market House last month, when local people learned more about how the scheme works.
