Bray Council has revealed plans for flash-flood protection in the region, following the disastrous incidents that occurred last summer.
Town council engineers told elected representatives of the bottle-neck which has formed in the Swan River.
Sean O'Neill and Liam Bourke said the river, one of the main reasons for the heavy flooding, needed to the deepened and widened.
Engineers are expected to make further recommendations on preventative measure over the next few months.
Mountainview Drive and Oldcourt were some of the worst hit areas, as were Glen na Smole and Wheatfield.
Councillors were presented with diagrams of foul and storm sewers and culverts in the area.
Mr Bourke said it is essential to improve the channel between the Boghall and Wheatfield by nearly double.
He said trees would need to be removed from along the channel.
Councillor John Brady said August would remain in the minds of the local people "forever".
He asked if works on the Schering Plough lands had any impact on the Mountainview floods. Councillor Pat Vance said that works there were carried out in accordance with planning permission.
"The people in Wheatfield are reasonable people. They will know that if their homes were threatened they would want to have it fixed," added the Cathaoirleach, Ciaran O'Brien.
