A deal has been struck for the first phase of the Antrim Boardwalk Refurbishment Works.
Local firm Martin Contracting has signed on to deliver the works.
This project is being brought forward with £130,500 funding from the Department for Communities and Department for Infrastructure for this first phase of refurbishment work. The second phase of the works will be an extension of the Boardwalk which is being advanced as part of the Antrim Levelling Up Fund Scheme.
Under the upgrade project, the existing timber decking bards will be removed and replaced with new anti-slip timber decking boards. Existing street lighting and balustrade along the timber boardwalk and timber path will also be replaced.
Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Billy Webb said: "This is welcome news for our Borough. These refurbishment works will bring more footfall to Antrim Town Centre and help us tackle the challenges of climate and environmental change by encouraging active travel whilst also proving a local business with the contract."
