More than 1,100m of ageing cast iron water mains in Monaghan have been replaced following extensive works from Farrans Construction on behalf of Uisce Éireann.
As a result, Uisce Éireann customers in Castleblayney are benifitting from a more secure, reliable water supply.
Devin Reilly Terrace, St Macartan's Terrace, Black Island View and Beech Drive are the latest locations in Monaghan to benefit from upgrades to their drinking water network.
The works, which were carried out under Uisce Éireann's national Leakage Reduction Programme, involved replacing the ageing water mains with new, modern pipes and replacing almost 200 backyard services.
The works commenced in late 2023 in Devin Reilly and mid 2024 in Black Island. The upgrades also included laying new water service connections from the public water main in the road to customers’ property boundaries and connecting it to the customers' water supply.
These completed works will provide a number of benefits. As well as significantly reducing the volume of drinking water lost into the ground before reaching customers, the upgraded water mains will also reduce the risks of bursts and other operational issues.
Patricia Lowry, Programme Manager with Uisce Éireann, said that customers can be assured of a more reliable water supply as a result of the successful works.
"We wish to extend our thanks to the local communities for their patience and cooperation while these essential leakage repair works were carried out," said Patricia.
"The works will improve water quality and have also reduced the volume of drinking water lost into the ground before ever reaching customers’ taps and will allow for a more reliable and secure water supply for customers in the region."
