Uisce Éireann has reached a major milestone in its multi-million-euro programme to reinforce Clonmel's water network, completing 15km of new water mains that link the Monroe water treatment plant with the Giant's Grave reservoir.
With this key section finished, teams will step back from town roads and concentrate on the remaining elements of the investment at the water treatment plant and the pumping station, improving the town's drinking water infrastructure.
Upgrade works at the Monroe facility and at Rathronan pumping station are progressing well. When fully delivered in Autumn, they will provide customers in Clonmel with a safe and reliable supply from the Monroe plant via the Giant's Grave reservoir.
Commenting on the pipeline milestone, Uisce Éireann's Darragh Hannon said: "I would like to thank the local community for their patience and support while these works were underway to build 15km of brand-new water mains. They are a vital component of the investment in new water infrastructure underway to provide Clonmel with a safe and secure water supply which will enhance security and resilience across the town into the future."
Night-time road reinstatement is taking place this week from Rathronan Junction beyond the Halfway House Pub and along the Cashel Road.
Works are also advancing on replacing ageing and problematic water mains in the town centre, where road refurbishment is under way.
